The goal of the project DONAUHANSE is to establish a network of cities, which provides sound solutions to similar problems with the greatest possible benefit for all participating cities and regions along the Danube.

EUSDR: Strengthened Cooperation of the Danube Region

06.06.2013 | EU Strategy for the Danube Region

The EU Strategy for the Danube Region is a macro-regional Strategy, which was adopted in 2011. The Strategy seeks to create synergies and coordination between existing structures, policies, and activities, and to take better advantage of the resources of the 14 nations of the Danube region.

The Working Community of the Danube Regions and the Council of the Danube Cities and Regions met on March 26, 2013, in Brussels, to discuss the enhanced cooperation of these two institutions. It is the stated aim to give the cities and regions an increased role in the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR).

The EU Strategy for the Danube Region groups eleven priority areas in four thematic pillars. Priority area 10, “Institutional Capacity and Cooperation,” is coordinated by the City of Vienna and Slovenia.

Two important tasks of priority area 10 are the creation of a “Civil Society Platform” and the development of innovative financing instruments, which are tailored to the needs of the projects, institutions, and businesses of the Danube Region.

Another priority for the City of Vienna in the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region is the cooperation with many different partners. Several municipal departments of the City of Vienna are supporting the Strategy, as are the Vienna School Board, the International Organization for Migration, the European Space Policy Institute, and the Federal Procurement Agency, as well as the City of Vienna’s Women’s Department (MA 57), whose “FemCities Danube Region project” is carried out within the framework of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.
